That looks like a pretty neat and simple idea! Does it succesfully flip the switch both ways?

Any pics of the 4wd progress?

Would you want this thread moved to "project pages"?

Moved for ya....

You can change the title in the first post to anything you like.

Wiring.... Here's what I do.... just pick a way, don't get too permanent, and plan on changing it a few times before it's actually "done."

You should tint those windows to match the windshield. I'm not saying to make them limo tint, just a little would look really cool. Nice job by the way. I always like seeing something new and original.

I made my decision about the wheels im going to use jeep hurricane wheels
i like the traction and the size

43.54 KB

48.03 KB

i bought four front wheels and 2 extra wheel drivers

i have a question
the jeep hurricane motors have a tooth count of 13, and the motors from the escalade use 16
will the jeep hurricane tires work with the escalade motors?

A lot of the drivers are interchangeable. Which drivers are you showing on the Hurricane wheels? The ones from the Escalade? If yes, that's all you need to know for as far as "will it fit."

Hurricane gearboxes..... I'm thinking they are different then standard #7's, so the 13 number may not mean anything.

The Escalade tires are pretty tall, and 16T gearboxes are made for 14" tall tires. Are the Hurricane tires taller or shorter then stock? That's what will make the difference for speed. Taller = faster, shorter = slower.

the driver on the picture is the one from the escalade

i dont know what #7 gear boxes look like i havent read that tread

but the gearboxes from the hurricane look the same as the ones from the escalade(i compared them side by side)the only difference is the motor it just looks different

the tires from the hurricane mesure 15.5 inches

the #13 is in the same place of the gearbox(hurricane) as is the #16 in the gearbox of the escalade so i think the number 13 refers to the tooth count

Because the Hurricane has much larger wheels the gear ration has been increased hence the 13T gearboxes. I do not know the exact gear ratio of the 13T gearboxes however if you extrapolate the value from the other #7 gear ratios and calculate the speed with the tyre size it indicated that the Hurricane would have a top speed about 0.8kph/0.5mph less than the Escalade if they both have comparable motors. This is supported by the Hurricanes specs that I have seen.
It is quite possible that the Hurricane is more gear towards torque than speed.

would it be better to use the jeep tires with the jeep gearboxes?

Sorry for asking so many Q's

You would probably see about a 0.8kph/0.5mph speed increase with the Hurricane tires over Escalade tyres using the 16T gearboxes on 12volts. Because there isn’t a huge difference in size I wouldn’t imagine that you would lose much torque.

i did a lift on the caddy dont really now how much in total with the bigger tires

i put safety 1st gears on the front they are new,the only reason i did that is because they have a back plate that was easy to bolt on to the front

i havent opened them up but i was wondering will these be okay to use with the 16t in the back?

apart from being in different colors the caddy is looking sweeeet

Looks good, coming together.

Any closeup pics of the front end?

Knowing the gear ratio of the Safety 1st gearboxes would help. If you can find out, compare it to:
16T = 147.4:1

But then the motors may be different also. If the gear ratio is the same, you could change the motors to match, but the odds of the ratio matching isn't real good either.

You may end up just having to try it. If there's a problem, we'll see if we can find a solution. If you wire the front and rear in parallel in any way, may make the problem worse. Not wiring them in parallel will somewhat defeat the purpose of 4wd.

What are the white spacers behind the gearcase? Are they the factory spindle?

Just wondering I have never seen the under side of one of those.

LOOKS GOOD!!!! Keep up the good work..

Nice attention to detail. I think I would need to sell some of my children to get the time I would need to do all of that.

VERY cool thread/mods.

I'm looking to get more traction and a beefier look for the Barbie Escalade that I bought my daughter for Christmas.

2fast - do you know if the Hurricane wheels and tires (front and rear) can be mounted on a stock Escalade?

I wondered why you purchased four sets of front wheels, rather than a set of fronts and rears - I'm guessing that the offsets or mounting may be different (?)

Thanks!

the reason i purchased four front wheels is because the jeep hurricane uses a bigger rear axle so the back tires wont fit, what i did is bolted on the original caddy wheel drivers right onto the jeep hurricane front wheels and put them in the back, the only downside to swapping tires is that the jeep hurricane tires are thinner which works good for me because it doesn't pop the front wheels so much with the motors i figure some spacers and a longer rear axle could fix the problem

i mounted the speakers below the seat seems like a good spot

45.57 KB

I'm using DUAL speaker brand because they come with led lighting so it provides interior lighting and good sound at 140watts per speaker

i also added a fake engine for the the hood with a couple of batt indicators

i still have to install the second speaker and tweeters but I'm going to call it a day

the easiest traction aid is the BMX tire's screwed to the wheels.there is a vidieo on the home page and lots of discussions in the forums.just remember this will probably shorten the life of the gear boxes and or motors.as long as your child remembers to start in low gear and then shift to high it should last for a while.good luck and if you have more questions just holler.

laisanel came over from another thread.... he was talking about installing the Hurricane wheels on the Jammin Jeep. So he wants to know what to buy to do so. I think a bunch of the info is already in here though, toward the end of page 2 I believe.

Well sad to report that the caddy has been given away i gave it to a buddy of mine. I wanted to finish it its just that with the mustang being 24Volts(still running),and the SP Jeep hitting 7.5mph,and the extreme at 18volts21t i wasn't sure i was gonna get the speed my son needed. I gave it away with just the lift kit and the PW running i didn't have time to test 4x4. On the bright side i got the new caddy 08 that i plan on pimping the ish out of and making it faster(scooter motors)ill post pics of the project soon.
